When Potential Meets Opportunity

What a marvelous way to end the day, if each of us could say: Today I have performed an act of charity towards others and what better way, to do this on the first day of spring. The first day of spring, is when light and dark last the same amount of time and the promise of sunshine is slowly but surely arriving on our shores. Symbolically it creates a mindset that the greys of winter are behind us and better days lie ahead. It also symbolizes love, hope, youth and growth and leaves one inspired and excited to try new things and with this mindset and selfless giving, the Ladies Circle hosted a fabulous charity event in aid of the Lindie Prinsloo Foundation.

The Ladies Circle is an international social networking organisation (non-political and non-sectarian), designed for women between the ages of 18 and 45. The association aims to promote friendship through social contact at local, national and international levels and to be of service to the community, where they give their time and commitment to gather funds for different projects. For the past few months, they organized a charter raffle in support of the Lindie Prinsloo Foundation, which in turn focusses on providing support to people affected by gender based violence. The event was held on the 1st of September 2021 and the night was filled with entertainment, lots of fabulous prizes and hope for great things to come.

Gender based violence is an act of crime and it is one of the most pervasive and yet least recognised human rights abuses in the world and leaves survivors with long-term psychological and physical trauma. It undermines the health, dignity, security and autonomy of its victims. These acts are perpetuated physically, sexually, psychologically and/or economically and the victims usually have limited or no access to resources or services that may help lift a victim out of the cycle of violence. The victims rely on the building capacity of local organisations and communities to respond to gender based violence by empowering woman, girls and children through education, health and livelihood opportunities to speak up for their rights and by helping to break the cycle.

They say that when you move your focus from competition to contribution life becomes a celebration and this is the feeling one gets, when you work with the Ladies Circle of Namibia. These ladies are all career driven woman, with fulltime jobs and families and yet they manage to make time to support and give back to the community. They are actively involved in giving back to the community and to support and make a difference where they can, not necessarily by leaps and bounds, but bit by bit. A percentage of the raffle draw went towards the Lindie Prinsloo Foundation to help establish a safehouse for woman and children and these selfless giving group of ladies donated an astonishing N$60 000.00. All I can say is WOW and thank you for everything you do, to help make our beautiful land a better place.

Words fall short when one has to express their sincerest gratitude towards all the sponsors. Without you, this would not have been possible. Thank you Sound Garden Swakopmund, for hosting the event in your Havana Lounge. The wine, food and service were absolutely amazing and definitely contributed to a fabulous event. Also, a big thank you to the following sponsors for their contributions and great prizes:

And last but not least, thank you Ladies' Circle Namibia - In Formation, for everything. The community appreciates and values you and we are looking forward to your successful future projects.
